Crafted With Love: Sophia’s Wedding Day

This November, DMK celebrates a beautiful milestone — The wedding of our Chief Operating Officer, Sophia Goh. What made the occasion even more meaningful was the personal touch behind the scenes: Four custom-designed pairs of wedding shoes, lovingly created by DMK’s Chief Creative Officer (and Sophia’s younger sister), Eileen Goh.

Each pair was crafted to honour a different chapter of Sophia’s journey, as well as to celebrate the women who supported her journey, and each shoe is named with intention.

The Design Process

Every pair of shoes carries a story, and at DMK, each design reflects a chapter of life — from girlhood to womanhood, from woman to wife. For Sophia’s wedding, Eileen wanted her first bridal shoes to hold more than beauty. She wanted them to hold memories.

CHAPTER I: FROM PAST TO PRESENT

THE SOPHIA Custom Platform Sandals

THE SOPHIA is a tender homage to Sophia’s spirited childhood — lively, curious, always on the move. Its soft, cushioned base mirrors the comfort of those carefree years, while the playful asymmetrical straps nod to her fun and expressive nature.

To honour her transition into this new chapter, the platforms are hand-finished with delicate, sparkling crystals. They symbolise Eileen’s wishes for Sophia’s future to shine beautifully and brightly, while also paying tribute to the warm memories that shaped her past.

THE WENDY Custom Heel Sandals

Wendy, DMK’s co-founder and Sophia’s mum, has always been an irreplaceable part of Sophia’s journey through life. Wendy started DMK to support Asian women, crafting styles that helped them feel confident, elegant, and seen. This wedding created a rare, full-circle moment: The designer becoming the one designed for.

For Sophia’s big day, Wendy wore custom heel sandals adorned with the same hand-set crystals found on THE SOPHIA Custom Platform Sandals, but in sophisticated gold and black. These colours reflect her quiet strength, resilience, and timeless poise.

More than just a pair of shoes, THE WENDY Custom Heel Sandals is a symbol — a reminder that as Sophia walks into marriage, she carries with her the legacy of the woman who raised her through life.

CHAPTER II: FROM PRESENT TO FUTURE

THE KIM Custom Platform Sandals

For Sophia’s second pair, the design shifts from nostalgia to aspiration — A celebration of her transition from the woman she is today to the wife she is becoming. Inspired by her husband Lawrence’s surname, Kim (金), which means gold in Chinese, this pair shines with bold, faceted crystals that echo the brilliance of their shared future.

Its four delicate straps carry a deeper meaning: 成双成对, a symbol of two individuals coming together in perfect harmony. The platforms, elevated yet softly cushioned, mirror the kind of love Sophia and Lawrence share — one that lifts, steadies, and supports without ever weighing down.

THE SOPHIA and THE KIM

Both of Sophia’s custom wedding heels are adorned with gold buckles, a subtle but meaningful nod to Lawrence’s surname, Kim (金). Beyond a beautiful finishing touch, the gold serves as a unifying thread across Sophia’s bridal shoes, symbolising the joining of two families, two journeys, and two lives into one.

A quiet reminder that every step she takes, from the past into the present, and now into the future, is intertwined with the love she has found.

At the bottom of each sole, their initials and wedding date are engraved in gold — a quiet, intimate detail that marks their love as something that lasts forever. A reminder that no matter where life takes them, every step begins with this moment, and with each other.

THE ALICIA Custom Heel Pumps

For Sophia’s mother-in-law, Alicia, a pair of custom pumps was designed for her to mirror the same crystal detailing found on THE KIM — A gentle, thoughtful thread that ties both families together.

These shared elements symbolise the blending of two families and journeys. CHAPTER III: STEPPING INTO FOREVER

Sophia’s style has always leaned toward the timeless and classic — Pieces she can return to long after the wedding day. This vision shaped her customised ROM shoes and later inspired the pair she chose for her tea ceremony. Rather than opting for a traditional Kua, she selected a Dior jacket-and-skirt ensemble that she could rewear, perfectly embodying DMK’s philosophy of versatility with elegance.

To mirror this idea, her tea ceremony shoes were designed with the same intention: beautiful enough for a milestone moment, yet wearable for the chapters that follow.
